WIRELESS WARNINGS: FORENSIC RECOVERY OF ELECTRONIC DOCUMENTS

DAVID IVERSON Investigations and Forensic Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP

WIRELESS WARNINGS: FORENSIC RECOVERY OF ELECTRONIC DOCUMENTS
Computer forensics involves investigating computer systems to determine whether they are or have been used for illegal or unauthorized activities. The storage devices most commonly targeted for forensic review are computer hard drives, network servers, and backup storage media. However as people rely on more portable forms of data storage, such as iPods, BlackBerrys, USB thumb drives, and building swipe cards, these items all become key pieces of evidence in any investigation.

The proliferation of these portable devices has led to some concern about the security of the data they store, and the ways in which these devices can be used to access information on traditional storage devices.

In this session, Dave will explain how wireless and hand-held devices have been used to thwart internal security measures and improperly obtain and remove key priority information. He will discuss whether computer forensic techniques can be used to obtain information from these devices, and introduce other potential sources of electronic storage media.

This session is targeted to anyone who has any concerns with the loss or theft of intellectual property. Attendees will hear about real world examples, covering issues of financial crime, to bid rigging, to the theft of employer secrets.
