Chris Sepp

Director, Service Delivery, MYRA Systems Corp.

Chris Sepp (Christoph Jan Sepp) is Director, Service Delivery for MYRA Systems Corp., a BC based IT Infrastructure and Consulting firm. Chris has worked in the IT industry for 12 years and is a practicing management consultant, entrepreneur and project manager. Prior to MYRA, Chris worked for the Vancouver International Airport Authority as a Project Manager. Before Chris moved to Vancouver from Germany in 2004, he was founder and owner of a services company in Nuremberg, Germany. He also worked for KPMG Consulting and for a major airline in offices in Chicago, Detroit, Madrid and multiple cities in Germany.

Chris has a M.Sc. in Business Administration from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a member of the Project Management Institute. Chris is also ITIL Foundation certified and is one of a few individuals in British Columbia certified as an ITIL Service Manager.

As part of his role at MYRA, Chris manages MYRA’s Vancouver based professional services. Core of his function is to lead large IT infrastructure projects for the broader public and private sector. His team also provides Business Consulting Services that include ITIL Process Implementations.

Chris volunteers for CIPS Vancouver (Canadian Information Processing Society). He has been on the CIPS Board since year 2005 and has served in a variety of roles including his current role as President. He has also acted in the following other capacities – Vice-President, Director of IT, event organizer, committee member and presenter. Chris volunteers for CIPS to support the local IT community as well to network with like-minded industry professionals.

In his spare time, Chris enjoys running (finished the Los Angeles Marathon in less than 4 hours), beach volleyball and his cats Amelie & Sophie.


 

John R. Hill, CISSP

Security Evangelist, McAfee Inc.

John R. Hill is a Security Evangelist and a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) at McAfee, Inc. McAfee, Inc. is a leading global provider of security solutions that prevent intrusions on networks and protect critical systems from the next generation of blended attacks and threats. His career in the network infrastructure and information security industry spans over 12 years of experience.

Mr. Hill is involved in the development of security technology, architecture, and strategy, along with communicating business oriented security solutions and goals for enterprise and governmental clients.

Mr. Hill regularly speaks on security industry topics including “Security Risk Management”, “Compliance and Risk Management”, “Managing the Security Processes as a Business Entity” and “The Current Threat Landscape”.

Prior to joining McAfee, Mr. Hill worked several years for Internet Security Systems, communicating industry best practices and security awareness. He was also responsible for reviewing and consulting on enterprise security related issues and threats. Along with his experience in the security industry, Mr. Hill formerly worked for Enterasys Networks and Cabletron Systems. While in the networking industry, Mr. Hill helped Fortune 100 companies to architect and implement globally connected networks.

Mr. Hill also holds a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University.


 

Dmitry Samosseiko

Head of Spam Operations, SophosLabs

Dmitry has over 13 years of IT experience in various roles across Canada and Russia.

Since 2001, Dmitry has been responsible for Sophos's anti-spam initiatives. He was one of the first developers for Sophos's gateway security solution, PureMessage and is credited for developing the first version of anti-spam filter.

Today, Dmitry continues to focus on Sophos's anti-spam and anti-malware research where he leads a group of computer security researchers and developers.

Dmitry is an industry expert on messaging security and has spoken at numerous user group forums and educational security events throughout North America. Most recently, Dmitry spoke at the Virus Bulletin 2006 Conference in Montreal, Canada.

Dmitry earned a Masters degree in Computer Science in Russia from St. Petersburg University of Fine Mechanics and Optics.


 

Duane Nickull

Senior Technical Evangelist, Adobe Systems

As Senior Technical Evangelist for Adobe Systems, Duane Nickull is responsible for Adobe’s messaging around enterprise solutions in the SOA and Web Services spaces plus other forward looking aspects such as the Web 2.0. Previously Mr. Nickull co-founded Yellow Dragon Software Corporation, a privately held developer of XML messaging and metadata management software, acquired by Adobe in 2003. He previously served as CTO and President of XML Global Technologies, a publicly traded company acquired by Xenos Group in early 2003.

Mr. Nickull has written or participated in most of the larger SOA standards work in the past decade. He currently chairs the OASIS Service Oriented Architecture Reference Model Technical Committee (SOA-RM TC) which has just delivered a Reference Model for Service Oriented Architecture as a full OASIS standard. He served as a Vice Chair of the United Nations Centre for Facilitation of Commerce and Trade (UN/CEFACT) between 2003 and 2006. Within the United Nations, he oversaw the UN’s Electronic Business strategy and Service Oriented Architecture and modeling efforts. He has served as the project team lead of the United Nations (UN/CEFACT) Electronic Business Architecture Group (SOA) and a specially appointed liaison between the W3C, UN and OASIS standards consortiums.

Additionally, Duane has served as the chair and lead system architect for the United Nation’s Electronic Business Working Group, a direct sub-group of CEFACT TMG and on the CEFACT TMG Steering Committee. He also has served as the Co-chair of the ebXML Technical Architecture group as well as co-editor of that specification starting in 1999, largely recognized as the first post-internet and post XML SOA. He has participated in writing many of the recent large Service Oriented Architectures that permeate the IT landscape today such as the W3C Web Services Architecture and also co wrote the Mackenzie-Nickull Meta-model for Architectural Patterns. Mr. Nickull has written and contributed many technical articles and books on these subjects.


 

Jeff Malenfant

Director of Systems Development, Helcim Inc.

Jeff Malenfant is the Director of Systems Development at Helcim Inc.; where he oversees the development of all software and information systems. Through every step of Helcim's growth, Jeff must address the challenges of establishing platforms that secure credit card data while providing the business functionalities needed by Helcim's merchants. His extensive knowledge of the payment card industry security standards has allowed Helcim to offer secured payment processing solutions since 2007. Prior to being with Helcim, Jeff worked as a project manager for a web development firm, managing the development of a multitude of e-commerce and online systems.
